My Bio . . .
Thanks so much for stopping by!
A few things about me....
I was born during the 60's era when everything was peace, love and definitely GROOVY. In case you don't know what "groovy" means, it basically means the same thing as "cool" or "awesome". And if you drove one of these:
Oh yeah . . . . you were the epitome of grooviness!
I'm the youngest of four kids and back then, our tv looked something like this:
. . . a nice big, chunky set that rested on the floor. Notice the knobs at the bottom? That's right! . . . one actually had to GET UP to change the channel or adjust the volume. NO REMOTES here! And speaking of channels, there were only 3 or 4. NO satellite, NO cable and NO streaming. Getting a really good signal with the rabbit-ear antenna was considered high-definition.
I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but my first clear memories where when we lived on Johnson Air Force Base in Tachikawa, Japan. I remember the snow, the cherry blossoms and I especially remember hearing the roar of Mr. Blackmon's car when he came to pick up Dad for work!
Oh and this mountain . . .
It's actually a dormant volcano called Mount Fujiyama (or Fuji for short). "Dormant" means it hasn't erupted in a long time..but could erupt again. My family visited a little town at the base of the mountain called Niko.
We moved back to San Antonio when I was 6 years old where I attended Adams Hill Elementary School which was just down the street and around the corner. I also attended E. M. Pease Middle School and Oliver Wendell Holmes High School (Sic 'em Huskies!).
Looking back...I can't remember a time when I DIDN'T have a pet. We could have dogs, birds or fish, but no cats and definitely no rats! Incidentally, Mom's definition of Rat = mouse, gerbil, hamster, guinea pig or ANYTHING THAT COULD BE MISTAKEN for a mouse, gerbil, hamster or guinea pig!
Fast forward to today . . . .
Pets are still a HUGE part of my life. My husband Oliver, daughter Gabrielle and I live with a flock of birds (parrots to be exact), so without further ado, I present to you (left to right): Samson, Casper, Sunny, Mango, Hershey, Hemingway and Nigel.
It sounds like a jungle at my house around 4pm!
Along with these guys, we have 5 dogs, 4 goldfish (BIG ONES! Big enough to need a 150 gallon aquarium!) and 4 Cichlid fish.
When I'm not busy with family, work, church or pets, I like to read, watch home design shows or do crafty stuff. I particularly like needlework but will try anything I think looks pretty.
Story ideas usually come to me at night when it's quiet. I received my storytelling genes from my Mom who is a wonderful storyteller in her own right.
I hope to be like her when I grow up!

Valerie
